not forgotten . . .

Garry Evans

London, Ontario, Canada
17.Mar.1952 - 08.Feb.2019

 from Oswego Speedway:
We are sad to share the news of Garry "Hacker" Evans passing over on February 8, 2019.
From Ontario, Garry was a former winged and non-winged Supermodified driver of the memorable red and blue REMAX No. 69.
Evans competed part-time at Oswego from 1981-1988, and then returned for one last run at the International Classic in 1992. He qualified for a total of five Classics throughout his career, and secured the 14th fastest time trial lap for the 28th running of the 200 in 1984.
Despite a handful of impressive qualifying efforts for the part-time driver who always showed speed and potential at Oswego, he’d have to wait a little longer for his career best finish in the Classic which didn’t come until he crossed the line to a 14th place in 1988.
Evans’ best overall finish at Oswego came in a 6th place run on Opening Day in 1985 when he finished behind a rather recognizable top five consisting of Ed Bellinger Jr, Steve Gioia Jr, Bentley Warren, Mike Muldoon, and Tim Nelson.
After finishing 25th in his final attempt at the Classic in ‘92, Evans has remained heavily involved in the sport until his passing. Since retiring from Supermodified action, he has continued to be an avid race fan and frequently attended events all over the United States and Canada.
He owned a Sprint Car in recent years, and was known to keep tabs on Oswego Speedway’s latest happenings via the track’s social media outlets. His presence will certainly be missed in our racing community, and by all who had the privilege of knowing Garry personally.
The staff and management of the Oswego Speedway send our deepest condolences to Gary’s family and friends.
